Testimonials

“Just completed this very informative and constructive 2-day intensive 8 shaft table loom weaving course. Would highly recommend this to anyone who is a total novice in weaving, like me or someone who has some weaving experience looking to advance onto a shaft loom.”

Sian, Wales

“Brilliant weekend course with an expert teacher who understands what beginners need. Pamela shares her skills, experience and passion for weaving, and has a real gift for teaching as well as being an all-round lovely person. Recommended.”

Robert, Manningtree

“The beginner’s intensive table loom course is a wonderful first step into loom work. I knew next to nothing when entering and Pamela guided me/us through all the steps to thread the loom and offered advice on techniques, ideas and colours as we went. With a small class it really is almost a one to one lesson. It really was a wonderful way to spend a weekend. I would thoroughly recommend. “

Karen, Essex

In this 2-day creative hand-weaving workshop you will learn how to design and plan a warp, set up an 8-shaft loom and weave a selection of samples using a variety of techniques. This is an in-depth, intensive workshop and you will come away with all the technical knowledge required to start weaving independently.

Suitable for complete beginners or those requiring an in-depth refresher. Each student will have use of a dedicated 8-shaft Ashford table loom, or have the option to bring their own.

Day 1

Focus on how to design your cloth and calculate a warp using colours of your choice and all the processes required to set up your loom, from using a warping mill to threading the heddles. By the end of day 1 your loom will be set up and ready to start weaving.

Day 2

Weaving all day. You will learn how to read a lifting plan and be introduced to the classic weave structures as well as to more complex, contemporary designs. You will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of different yarns. You will go home with a selection of samples or completed piece of fabric to display or make a functional item from.

Maximum four participants allowing plenty of personalised tuition.

Weekend Workshops will be held 10-5pm each day.

Weekday Workshops will be held 9.30-4.30pm each day.

THE WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

Merino wool yarn will be available to purchase to take away with you in a range of 32 colours at a discounted rate.
