This creative weaving workshop allows participants to gain an excellent understanding of the principles of woven structure and design in hand-weaving, and covers a range of techniques to enable you to introduce some wonderful surface textures and patterns to your weaving.

We will be working with an A3-size beech wood frame loom which comes with a rotating heddle bar, and we will be weaving with varying thicknesses of yarn, combined with colour, to create different surface effects.

You will learn how to weave twills, herringbone, honeycomb & extra weft figurative structures using a pick up method, learn how to follow a lifting plan, as well as how to create your own design. Combining colour and structure is at the heart of the workshop.

Small group of 5 people maximum, to allow for plenty of one-one, personalised tuition.

Suitable for complete beginners and also intermediate weavers who have completed the Introduction to Frame Weaving workshop and  looking to develop their expertise in woven structures.

Frame Weaving Workshops take place on Weekdays 9.30-2.30pm and Saturdays 10-3pm on a choice of scheduled dates. Alternatively, if you are a family or group of friends (min 4 people) and have a specific date in mind this can be arranged at no additional cost – please contact Pamela directly.­­

THE WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

• 5 hours of weaving demonstrations and guided | one-to-one tuition.
• Use of the looms and tools.
• All materials.
• Workshop technical guide.
• Refreshments

You will have the option to purchase your weaving loom kit at a special rate of at the end of the workshop or as a combined purchase when you book the workshop. Please see ‘select date’ to view options in the dropdown. Merino wool yarn is also available in a range of colours with students receiving a 10% discount.

WHAT TO BRING 

All materials are provided. however I do  encourage you to bring any discarded old clothing / textiles which can be cut and woven into your piece or yarn oddments that would otherwise go to waste.

Bring a packed lunch. Alternatively, there is the local cafe where you can order lunch and artisan coffee.

Public transport: The nearest train station is 5 miles away in Chelmsford. Approx 35 mins from London Liverpool St. Pick up can be arranged.
